Osogbo, Oct 19, 2012 (NAN) Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun on Thursday  requested the state assembly to approve N17. 42 billion as supplementary budget for the government.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salam, read a letter from the governor conveying the request  during the plenary session of the assembly.

Salam said the supplementary budget would be useful for re-allocation and re-distribution of budgetary provisions of certain heads and sub-heads of the year 2012 budget.

Aregbesola assured the lawmakers that his administration would continue to live up to expectation through probity and delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people.

He said the supplementary budget would enable affected agencies to execute their projects and programmes.

Meanwhile, the assembly has passed Osun Anthem, Crest and Flag bill, 2012, after its third reading.

The bill was passed  through a motion moved by the Chief Whip,  Mr Ipoola Binuyo and seconded by  Mr Busola Adeyeni.

The speaker said that the approval of the anthem did not pose a threat to the federation of Nigeria.

Salam said the bill was the official description of the state and that it would allow the younger generations to attach importance to the culture of the Yoruba.

He said other states, such as Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti, had their own anthems and crests. (NAN)
