FRSC, club plan marathon in Enugu in December

Enugu, Oct.27, 2012 (NAN) The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Osita Chidoka, said on Saturday that the commission would hold a marathon in Enugu in December to enhance the fitness of its personnel.

Chidoka made the plan known in Enugu, saying the race would be in collaboration with the Coal City Fitness Club.

``I belong to the Coal City Fitness Club and l come out here to do exercise whenever I am in Enugu.

`` The FRSC is coming together with them to organise Enugu Marathon and December will be the start off.

``We want to start an annual marathon in Enugu FRSC with Coal City Fitness Club. We are using this opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of physical fitness,’’ he said.

He said the marathon was aimed at encouraging people to imbibe the attitude of exercise and physical fitness seriously.

Chidoka said that the event would be an annual event and urged other members of the club to join in the exercise to reduce risks related to the lack of exercise.

In his remark, the Enugu Zonal Commander of FRSC, Mr Chike Nwaka, said that the command had engaged  in fitness exercises every first Saturday of the month to enhance the fitness of personnel.

``The reason for the exercise is to ensure that officers and men of the command are fit. We have been doing it all.

``Every month, we must observe it because if you are not fit there is no way you can fit into the society,’’ he said.

Nwaka advised everyone to make physical exercise part of  life to avoid sudden death. (NAN)
