JNI, ACF mourn Adegbite

Kaduna, Sept. 30, 2012 (NAN) The Jamaátu Nasril Islam (JNI) on Saturday mourned the death of Dr Lateef Adegbite, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Adegbite, 79, a constitutional lawyer from Igbore in Abeokuta, died on Friday.
Describing the death as painfull, Dr Aliyu Khalid, the Secretary General of JNI, said in a statement in Kaduna, that it came at a critical time when the country needed him.
``He was an upright, fearless, committed and accomplished Islamic worker and a lawyer of high pedigree.
``It is on record that he was the pioneer National President of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria.’’
It further condoled the bereaved family, Nigerians and the Ogun State Government over the death and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
It also prayed Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest.
Similarly, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Saturday in Kaduna expressed shock over the demise of Adegbite.
A statement issued by Anthony Sani, ACF’s national publicity secretary, said on Saturday in Kaduna that Adegbite died preaching religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
``He was a true and strong believer in one united Nigeria, inhabited by people who are socially diverse, economically empowered and politically active.’’
``We imagine the body of Seriki Musulmi and Baba Adinni of Egbaland lying in both peace and in pains: the peace associated with death and the pain of what he has left behind.
``And so the best honour to the venerated Adegbite is for Nigerians to live out what he preached till his death in our daily lives,`` the statement said.
It prayed God to provide the family, the people of Egbaland, the Muslim community, the Government of Ogun State and people of Nigeria, the fortitude to endure the irreparable loss.
