FG approves N3bn for new Gwarimpa General Hospital

Abuja, Oct.31, 2012(NAN) The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday in Abuja approved N3.028 billion for the construction of phase one of a new General Hospital at Gwarimpa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

 



The Minister of State for FCT, Mrs Olajumoke Akinjide, disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents on the outcome of the weekly FEC meeting, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

 



She said that the 220-bed hospital project would serve the inhabitants of the Gwarimpa Housing Estate and environs.

 



Akinjide said that already the FCT had earmarked two hectares of land at the Gwarimpa district for construction of the project.

 



According to her, the phase one of the project would include the construction of main hospital block, fencing, residential quarters for medical staff, mortuary and incinerator.

“Today, Federal Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency, the President, approved the contract for the award of phase one for the construction of a 220-bed general hospital for Gwarimpa district which is in phase one of Abuja, Federal Capital city.

 



“As you know the Gwarimpa district houses Gwarimpa estate which is reputed to be the biggest estate in Africa and at present there is no secondary tertiary health care facility to serve that district with its growing population. 

 



“We have, therefore, earmarked a plot, that is two hectares in area in the district for this purpose.

 



“This is totally in accordance with Abuja master plan and the contract will be in two phases.

 



“The first phase, which is the construction of facility that was awarded today and that included the construction of the main hospital block, fencing, accommodation for medical staff, maintenance building, mortuary and incinerator.”

The minister said that the phase two of the project would involve the actual equipping of the hospital.

 



She said adequate provision had been made in the FCT Statutory budget for the execution of the hospital project which would be completed within 86 weeks.

 



Akinjide also announced that the Council had approved the revised contract for the Code of Conduct Bureau Headquarters in the Central Business District from N3.5 billion to N8.7 billion.

“The second contract that was approved by the council was the contract for the Code of Conduct Bureau headquarters in the Central Business district.





“This building is a 13-storey building, comprising four multi-level storey car parks, two of which are subterranean and two are above ground, while nine-storey is for the actual building.

 



“This contract was actually originally awarded in 2010 but because of development control and design revision that provided any building in the central business district must have its own multi level car park."
